The Issue

My heart aches for my daughter, who recently came out as transgender. She is a beautiful, feminine person, but this society's trans apartheid has pushed her to attempt suicide four times. This cruel segregation forces her—and countless others—to constantly out themselves in front of a world that is often ruthless and unforgiving.

Trans individuals are being denied the basic human right to exist freely in public spaces due to outdated perceptions and relentless discrimination. This is not just an issue of toilets and changing rooms; it's a question of dignity, respect, and equality. The current situation is untenable, unrealistic, and unjust. Forcing trans women like my daughter to use facilities that do not align with their identity is harmful and dangerous.

Moreover, this excluding mentality extends beyond bathrooms. If we continue to support this form of trans apartheid, where will it end? Separate train carriages? Exclusive swimming pools? We cannot allow ourselves to slide backward into an era of segregation and inequality.

Instead, it is time we implement unisex facilities universally. Unisex toilets are a practical solution, offering privacy and safety for all, while respecting personal identity. They would eliminate the traumatic experiences forced upon trans individuals, allowing them to use facilities without fear of judgment or harassment.

Studies show that inclusive facilities do not compromise safety for anyone. According to the UCLA School of Law's Williams Institute, there is no evidence that allowing trans people to use their preferred restroom increases safety risks. By making all restrooms unisex, we take a step toward breaking down this unjust divide, fostering understanding and compassion.

Help us ensure that no one else goes through the pain my daughter has endured. Join our fight to tear apart this trans apartheid—demand equality, dignity, and safety for all. Please sign this petition today to show that you stand against discrimination and support unisex toilets everywhere.
