Save the Hungry Bears in Bandung Zoo

Save the Hungry Bears in Bandung Zoo
Masalahnya
Do you remember Yani, Sumatran elephant that died at Bandung Zoo (KBB) a while ago? In his death, Yani was left dying, and not getting a proper medical treatment, since there was no veterinarian at KBB.
Yani's death has become an example of poor management at Bandung Zoo. After the death of Yani, we were surprised by the number of bears that seemed to be starving in a dirty cage. Even a bear looked emaciated and was eating its own excrement.
Scorpion volunteers tried to help feeding the hungry bears with fruits and requested an access to view and to check the condition of the bear-which KBB claimed to be under intensive care. However, the request has never been granted until now. By this time, we do not know what will happen to the skeletal bear that ate it's own faeces.
On Sunday, January 8, 2017, Scorpion volunteers revisited Bandung Zoo and rediscovered a number of bears that seemed starving. Hungry bears were asking for food to a number of visitors who could throw anything into the enclosure.
What happened to this bear was a violation of the principles of minimum standards of animal welfare in the conservation organization, which are :
1. Freedom from hunger and thirst
2. Freedom from environmental discomfort
3. Freedom from pain, injury and disease
4. Freedom from fear and distress
5. Freedom to express their natural behavior.
It is also in a contrary to Article 1 paragraph 2 of Regulation No. DG PHKA P 9 / IV-SET / 2011 which stated that animal welfare is the viability of animals that needs to be supervised by managers so the animals can live healthy, have sufficient food, be able to express their normal behaviour, and grow and proliferate well in an environment that is safe and comfortable.
Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya: Immediately Save the Hungry Bears in Bandung Zoo.
