Segundo o TSE (Tribunal Superior Eleitoral), em 2018 haviam 500.727 eleitores brasileiros residentes no exterior estavam aptos a votar em 171 localidades eleitorais de 99 países. Destes, 1.859 registrados no eleitorado da Nova Zelândia.  Nem todos compareceram às urnas mas, ainda assim, a Embaixada do Brasil em Wellington facilitou a votação de residentes em Auckland, através da urna itinerante. Atualmente, 2.951 pessoas estão aptas a votar na Nova Zelândia.

Houve um crescimento de 45% no número de eleitores registrados na embaixada neozelandesa desde as últimas eleições presidenciais. (fonte)

Ainda assim, apesar de um crescimento quantitativo no eleitorado brasileiro, esse ano os brasileiros que vivem em Auckland (cidade com maior densidade populacional da Nova Zelândia e o maior eleitorado brasileiro no país) estão tendo esse direito tirado de seu alcance.

Isso porque, em 16 de Julho de 2022 nosso excelentíssimo Embaixador Marcos Arbizu de Souza Campos confirmou (via Facebook) que não haverá votação em Auckland.

A decisão causou espanto nos mais de 4,000 brasileiros que residem em Auckland pois:

• Não somente esse comunicado foi distribuído de forma não oficial (a informação foi atualizada no site oficial da Embaixada apenas em 16/08/2022, após o início dessa petição);
• principalmente, nossos compatriotas percebem essa decisão como mais um ataque à democracia;
• além de ser um direito, participar do processo eleitoral é um dever de todo cidadão brasileiro.

Junte-se a nos e assine essa petição para que a Embaixada e o TSE garantam o acesso a votação para a cidade com maior número de eleitores nas eleições presidenciais de 2022.

Afinal, democracia é isso: todos são iguais e merecedores de exercer seu direito nas urnas.

According to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court), in 2018 there were 500,727 Brazilian voters residing abroad who were able to vote in 171 electoral locations in 99 countries. Of these, 1,859 registered in the New Zealand electorate. Not all attended the polls, but even so, the Embassy of Brazil in Wellington facilitated the voting of Auckland residents, through the itinerant ballot box. Currently, 2,951 people are eligible to vote in New Zealand.

Still, despite a quantitative growth in the Brazilian electorate, this year Brazilians living in Auckland (the city with the highest population density in New Zealand and the largest Brazilian electorate in the country) are having this right taken out of their reach.

That's because on 16th of July 2022 our Excellency Ambassador Marcos Arbizu de Souza Campos confirmed (via Facebook) that there will be no voting in Auckland.

The decision shocked the more than 4,000 Brazilians residing in Auckland because:

• Not only was this decision announced unofficially (the information was updated on the Embassy's official website only on 08/16/2022, after the initiation of this petition);
• but mainly our fellow Brazilians perceive this decision as yet another attack on democracy;
• in addition to being a right, participating in the electoral process is a duty of every Brazilian citizen.

Join us and sign this petition for the Embassy and TSE to guarantee access to voting for the city with the highest number of voters in the 2022 presidential elections.

After all, that's democracy: we are all equal and deserving of exercising our right to vote.
