Motor Neurone Disease is currently not a 'notifiable' disease, even though it kills 800 Australians each year. 

This petition aims to make MND a notifiable disease.

This means that when a patient is diagnosed with MND the Neurologist MUST report it to the State Health Department.  This is an important in collecting information on the geographic location of cases and the rate at which the disease is spreading.

Diseases such as the Measles, Chlamydia, Covid 19, and the Flu are an example of notifiable diseases.

MND can appear many years after exposure to the cause.  The cause is still unknown because we cannot gather reliable data.

By making MND a notifiable disease, Scientists will be able to research possible environmental causes of this debilitating and fatal condition.  Clusters can be explored, environmental conditions monitored and information gathered will assist in finding a cause and therefore a cure.

Without this information researchers are looking for a needle in a haystack and MND will continue to be a mystery.
