It seems Doug Ford and our Councillor Brad Bradford have more in common than you’d think. The evidence is clear, with Ford’s Housing Affordability Task Force, stacked by people representing the interests of developers.

Their key recommendations are to “Repeal municipal policies that focus on preserving a neighbourhood's character.”

The report also recommends significant loosening of restrictions in residential neighbourhoods, such as allowing 4-storey apartment buildings where detached and semi-detached houses are permitted. This plan has often been sold to communities as an alternate to having skyscrapers in established neighbourhoods.

But do you think developers and their political enablers will throw in the towel at 4-stories? Bradford’s Op-Ed sends a clear signal to developers by using a 6-storey condo as the illustration! Even though he already signed up our ward for his very own “pilot” project which allows 4-storey buildings on side streets, his crusade to be the Councillor that plowed through the first ever high-rise in the Beach continues!

Its no wonder why Bradford is so protective of his 18-storey skyscraper at 1631 Queen when only 6-stories are allowed. Of City Councillors, Bradford holds 5th place for campaign contributions coming from developers! 41% of $68,650 dollars raised in total.

If this building is approved, it will set a precedent that will destroy the protections we have. The mid-rise village feeling that helps make the Beach such a family friendly place is under attack by developers and their political enablers who want to monetize this neighbourhood.

Please, if you haven't already, take a few seconds to tell Bradford that the Beach is not for sale, share this link with your friends! https://www.change.org/1631-queen
