Its election season! If you think the Beach is a special place and its charming human-scale character is something worth protecting, ask the candidates next time they knock on your door.
In conjunction with the community and former City Councillor Mary-Margaret McMahon, the Queen St. Urban Design Guidelines were created as a compromise, allowing for intensification while protecting the uniqueness of the Beach with a mid-rise built form for new developments.

Now, these rules are being ignored for an 18-storey highrise at 1631 Queen, 3x the allowable height!
Remember these promises made? Now with MMM running for a seat as a Liberal MP, its time to ask the tough questions. Will she and other candidates support what makes the Beach a priceless place?
“We know that large buildings towering over the street aren’t appropriate here… This Visioning Study has allowed us to find a place of compromise … we now have the Queen Street East Urban Design Guidelines which will control the height and size of new buildings in our community.” Mary-Margaret McMahon
