Petition updateBoycott Mexican Shrimp: Take the PledgeThe vaquita still need your help.
Animal Welfare Institute (AWI)Washington, DC, United States

Although Mexico's announcement of new gillnet regulations on June 30, 2017 was a welcome step to address threats to the vaquita, the ban falls short of what is needed. It exempts gillnet use by the corvina and Spanish mackerel fisheries, and fails to prohibit the possession, sale, and manufacture of gillnets. Until enforcement efforts are substantially increased and illegal gillnets are no longer found in the Upper Gulf, the near-permanent ban, while an improvement, will remain inadequate to reverse the decline of the vaquita. The vaquita still need your help.
