Meta’s recent changes to its conduct policy directly endanger women, transgender and non-binary people, Black people...ALL marginalized groups. By allowing users to refer to women as "household objects or property" and transgender people as “it,” Meta is legitimizing dehumanizing language. These changes normalize discrimination, invite online harassment, and exacerbate the stigma and marginalization already faced by these groups. Millions of users are now more vulnerable to hate speech, bullying, and psychological harm in what should be a safe online space for connection and expression.

If Meta continues down this path, the consequences will be far-reaching. Hate speech and discriminatory language online embolden real-world prejudice and violence, making communities less safe for millions of people. By removing fact-checking and weakening automated systems to flag harmful content, Meta is abandoning accountability and leaving its users to fend for themselves in a more hostile online environment. If these policies remain unchecked, Meta will become a platform that fosters hate and misinformation rather than inclusivity and truth. Reversing these changes is critical to protecting vulnerable communities and ensuring social media remains a tool for connection, not harm.

The urgency of this issue cannot be overstated. The time to act is now. As CEO Mark Zuckerberg aligns the platform with harmful political rhetoric, users must take a stand. Every moment of inaction allows hate speech to proliferate, further normalizing dehumanizing attitudes. By boycotting Meta, we send a powerful message that the public will not tolerate policies that devalue human beings.
