The Issue

Every day, hundreds of thousands of dogs are being poisoned like rats, subjected to brutal beatings, used for surgeries without aesthetic in universities and used for dog fighting. Cats in Egypt face a similar level of persecution directed by government, and fellow Egyptians. Astonishingly, in Egypt, it is not considered a legal offence to torture or neglect animals to death. For decades, charities have valiantly fought against this atrocity, but empty promises and lies are the only response we get from the government. It's high time we hit them where it hurts! It's time we affect their tourism!

According to estimates by the United Nations' World Tourism Organization, Egypt saw a drastic rise in tourism, with over 13.6 million people visiting in 2019 alone. Imagine the impact it would have if these tourists knew of the animal cruelty that goes unchecked. The demand for animal rights is not just an ethical plea, it is a worldwide voice growing stronger day by day. The presence of strict animal welfare laws is a mark of a modern, ethical, and compassionate society.

Egypt's current approach to animal welfare is far from ideals that encourage empathy, protect animal rights, or demonstrate compassion. By enforcing stricter animal welfare laws, Egypt could, not only meet international standards, but also foster a sense of national responsibility and compassion towards all living beings.

We cannot wait any longer for the government to follow through with their hollow promises. We urge you, we implore you - join us in our fight. Sign this petition to force Egypt to create and implement robust and stringent laws regarding the welfare of animals. Everyone can make a difference. Let your voice be heard. Together, we can end the suffering these animals endure. It's high time we brought about this change.
