Boycott Boise universities' excessive parking penalty policies

The Issue

I pay $27,000 a year for my education. In addition to this, I paid $400 for the annual privilege of parking on campus, in a very limited space, so I could have easy access to my classes. Recently, due to one simple miscalculation, I parked in a spot considered 'out of area.' This resulted in a $35 ticket, which I attempted to appeal. However, rather than hearing my concerns or considering my circumstances, the university chose to revoke my parking privileges entirely over this small infraction.

This situation has left me stranded, without the ability to access my educational resources or attend my classes, all over a minor parking ticket. It feels deeply unfair considering the significant tuition fees we already pay. I'm far from the only student experiencing this. Many of my peers are also struggling with Boise universities' harsh and inflexible parking policies. Many having to walk 3+ miles to class.

Universities should be places that support students' education and growth, not create additional barriers. There's a growing consensus that these extreme measures are disproportionate and do not take into account the students' financial and academic burdens.

We propose a more reasonable approach: Implementing a warning system for first-time minor parking violations, or creating a fair appeal process that genuinely considers student situations. By making these changes, universities can ensure that students are penalized appropriately without compromising their ability to attend classes.

Let us urge Boise universities to reassess and revise their punitive parking policies, and design a fairer system that considers the diverse needs and situations of their student body. Please sign this petition to bring about a change that will positively impact the educational experiences of countless students.
