For decades, we have watched as African businesses and braiding shops set up in our communities, disrespecting Black Indigenous Americans while making billions off our backs. They come to our neighborhoods, belittle us, make derogatory remarks, and treat us with a lack of dignity and respect.

In their braiding shops, they mistreat our women, pulling and neglecting their hair, sometimes damaging it permanently by ripping out edges. These acts stem from jealousy and a blatant disregard for the dignity and beauty of Black Indigenous Americans. Further fuelling the fire, they continuously say racist and nasty things about us, calling us lazy, uneducated, and ghetto. Despite this mistreatment, our communities have financially supported these businesses, only for them to send their profits away, investing nothing back into the growth and development of the neighborhoods that sustain them.

This is a call to action—a plea for us to stop being exploited and to reclaim our communities. By boycotting these businesses that disrespect us and pillage our economic wealth, we send a clear message: our culture and dignity are not for sale. We demand respect and reinvestment in our communities.
