Since I first contacted the APA Executive Director's office on June 22, 2015 about the need to advance equitable outcomes in planning, and since early 2016 when we posted this petition, the American Planning Association has done the following around advancing equity in its organization and the profession: 1. In summer of 2016, the APA Board of Directors and the AICP Commission adopted equity as one of two high-priority topics demanding new APA Policy Guidance, offering the greatest opportunity for supporting local planning, advancing planning research and practice, and leading policy change. 2. In September 2016 King County published its first Equity and Social Justice Strategic Plan 3. In 2017 the APA Board converted the Diversity Task Force to a permanent Diversity Committee 4. In August 2017, APA Washinton established a Inclusiveness Task Force that was later renamed WA-APA Committee on Equity and Inclusion 5. 2017 Defined a Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 6. 2018 Initiated a Planning for Inclusiveness and Social Justice Educational Track at each National Conference 7. In early 2018 established a Working Group to write the Policy Guide for Equitable Planning. 7. In 2018 Established a Social Equity Task Force 8. In 2019 Reviewed (and perhaps will adopt) a Planning for Equity Policy Guide 8. In 2019 Reviewed and perhaps will adopt an Equity Framework that recommends credits for equity as a part of the AICP certification curriculum. Thank you all for your help in bringing socioeconomic equity to the attention of APA's Board and membership. We will be watching to see if this commitment is sidetracked or swayed for some reason or the other.
