Hello everyone –
On November 19, 2021, there was a Town Hall between students and School of Social Work Administration. The new curriculum was not discussed or provided to students. It was also emphasized to students that administration was new (the current Dean has been at USC for 18 months) and the old administration was too "Hollywood" for social work. Students were asked to join focus groups about curriculum concerns.
A second article regarding the MSW program at USC by the Wall Street Journal was published November 24, 2021. We are thankful for all writers, content creators, and influencers for helping us advocate for ourselves as well as future students.
Today, November 30, 2021, invites to VAC students who were signed up for the focus groups were rescinded. We were informed “the focus group facilitators have asked to meet with Current MSW Campus-based Students at that time, and your participation for the focus group is no longer needed”. I wonder if administration understands how much this hurts and makes us feel rejected. Several students who have just completed their first semester at the USC MSW program have decided to disenroll and attend a different university.
We hope administration takes the time between semesters to organize and provide transparency for once.
For everyone that has been supportive of our endeavors, we are eternally grateful. We ask you all to continue your networking efforts for this cause and wish everyone happy holidays.
