Boroondara Councillors please approve and support the 2022 Boroondara Bike Strategy
The issue
Boroondara Councillors:
Cr Jane Addis, Mayor, Cr Wes Gault, Deputy Mayor, Cr Jim Parke, Cr Felicity Sinfield, Cr Victor Franco, Cr Di Gillies, Cr Lisa Hollingsworth, Cr Cynthia Watson, Cr Susan Biggar, Cr Garry Thompson, Cr Nick Stavrou
Please approve and support the 2022 Boroondara Bike Strategy.
The revised Boroondara Bike strategy has been developed over 2 years and has had extensive community consultation.
The bike strategy includes improvements that will encourage students to ride to school on safe trails free from traffic. Every student riding a bike is one less car on our busy roads.
Recent improvements such as the link over the Yarra River to the Darebin Creek Trail and the Anniversary Trail link behind Camberwell High School are very popular with both bike riders and walkers.
Improvements to the bicycle network will improve access to a range of destinations throughout Boroondara and make bicycle riding a feasible and attractive option for all residents, workers and visitors.
Traffic congestion on the roads of Boroondara is discouraging many people from riding bikes, particularly children and less experienced riders.
It is very important that the bike strategy and associated implementation plan be approved by Council so that work can proceed on providing a safe bike riding experience in Boroondara that is efficient and appealing to users of all ages and abilities.
