BORN AGAIN WAKE-UP CALL CHRISTIAN PETITION. IS SALVATION PRIMARILY FORGIVENESS OR FREEDOM?
The Issue

THE BORN AGAIN WAKE-UP CALL PETITION.
IS SALVATION PRIMARILY FORGIVENESS, OR FREEDOM?
Petition Statement
We, the undersigned, respectfully call upon churches, ministries, Christian organisations, theologians, Bible teachers, and believers throughout the world to engage in an open, honest, and respectful discussion concerning the meaning of salvation, redemption, freedom, and the new birth.

For many Christians, salvation is primarily understood as the forgiveness of sins.
For others, salvation is understood as both forgiveness and liberation from the power and dominion of sin.
We believe this question deserves renewed examination.

Throughout Scripture we encounter recurring themes of:
Bondage and freedom
Slavery and liberation
Debt and cancellation
Captivity and release
Dominion and sovereignty
Death and new life
Egypt and Exodus
Prison and freedom
Old creation and new creation
The language of redemption repeatedly appears in the context of release, emancipation, deliverance, and freedom.

Romans 6 speaks of freedom from sin.
The Exodus speaks of liberation from bondage.
The prophets speak of release from captivity.
Jesus declared liberty to the captives.
The Gospel proclaims the possibility of a transformed life.
We therefore call for a renewed focus on the question:
Does salvation merely forgive the sinner, or does it also set the sinner free?

We Affirm
That freedom is a central biblical theme.
That redemption involves release from bondage.
That forgiveness and transformation should both be openly discussed.
That Christians should be encouraged to pursue victory over sin rather than accept defeat as inevitable.
That the language of slavery, debt, freedom, deliverance, liberation, redemption, and sovereignty deserves renewed attention within Christian teaching.
That respectful disagreement should be welcomed and explored rather than suppressed.
That believers should be encouraged to examine the Scriptures for themselves.
The Central Question
If a prisoner is forgiven but remains in prison, has he been fully liberated?

If a debtor is forgiven but remains permanently dependent upon the creditor, has he been fully freed?
If a slave receives mercy but remains in bondage, has emancipation truly occurred?
Likewise, if salvation is described as freedom from sin, what does that freedom mean?
Call to Action
We invite churches, ministries, theologians, scholars, students, and believers from every denomination and tradition to participate in a respectful and constructive discussion concerning:
Sin and freedom
Grace and transformation
Redemption and liberation
Forgiveness and deliverance
Bondage and sovereignty
The meaning of being "Born Again"
We further call for public teaching, discussion forums, articles, debates, studies, and educational resources dedicated to examining these questions.
Declaration
We support an open examination of the biblical evidence and affirm the importance of discussing whether salvation is best understood primarily as:
A continuing experience of forgiveness within bondage,
or
A liberation from bondage itself.
