The Issue

Please share this post, its shocking how broken the system is for our Childrens Mental Health.

What suffering with depression and anxiety looks like for an adult:

Appointment with GP, offered medication and therapy.

What suffering with depression and anxiety looks like for a teen:

Visit A&E frequently due to suicidal thoughts, as there isn’t anywhere else to go.
A&E refer to a Crisis Team who will either deem them not to be at risk and not off an appointment - there will be no notification of this.
Or offer an appointment, advise that they do not offer emotional support, their only purpose is to signpost them elsewhere and discharge them.
Whilst this happening, mental health is spiralling and suicidal thoughts are present all of the time.
GP cannot off any medical intervention because teen is under 18 and makes a referral to a community pediatric who can offer medication.
Community pediatric are uncontactable, their number takes you to Child protection team who cannot offer any help as teen is over the age of 5.
Neuro development team deal with over 5's, they ask for you to leave a message and will contact you in 5 to 7 working day, if you're lucky.
Back to A&E we go, and the process repeats..

Anyone who is trapped in this harrowing cycle, Parenting Mental Health group on facebook is a god send!
