Save Our Zoos

Save Our Zoos

Zoos across the UK are battling to stay afloat following forced closures as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Chester Zoo has recently announced that, as a result of a government order for them to remain closed indefinitely, they are headed for financial ruin. If one of the biggest zoos in the country is feeling the strain, you can imagine the implications for smaller facilities.
Despite lockdown rules being relaxed so that groups can now meet outside and private gardens can reopen, these facilities are still forced to remain closed. This is in spite of the fact that they can manage visitors to ensure social distancing is maintained more efficiently than other outdoor spaces that are now open to visitors. There is no reason why, with careful planning, zoos should not be allowed to open.
We are calling for government support for our UK zoos, to allow them to open where possible whilst sensibly following government guidelines.
Without this help zoos, and the animals in their care, are under real threat. If they are forced to close permanently, the safety of their animals will be in jeopardy.
