Reverse the decision to put calorie counts on menus

Reverse the decision to put calorie counts on menus
The Issue
1.6 million people in the U.K. are struggling with eating disorders. And when we take into account those who aren’t seeking treatment, this number is actually more like 4 million.
Eating disorders also have the highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness.
The Government’s announcement today, that all food establishments will need to publish calorie counts on menus, is reckless.
It won’t solve any problems. In fact, it’s undoubtedly going to cause problems. For anyone struggling with, or in recovery from, an eating disorder - this move will cause unnecessary harm.
It’s nearly a decade since I was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa.
While very much in recovery, I fear how this new regulation will affect me and others who continue to battle the demons.
In 10 years, I have learned how to have a healthy relationship with food, understanding how to listen to my body over counting calories, viewing food as fuel not numbers, ridding the control that calories had over both my brain and my body.
Now, this hard work risks becoming undone.
The Government’s decision is incredibly disappointing, and puts too many lives at risk. Please sign this petition to help get this decision reversed.
