Make Fire Safety A Priority - And Bring Those Responsible For Grenfell To Justice

The Issue

On the 14th of June 2017, a fire broke out in Grenfell Tower. At least 72 people died. We have heard the details of this awful tragedy ever since it occurred; most recently culminating in the Phase 1 report of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry. And yet, almost nothing in terms of regulating the fire safety of cladding on other buildings has taken place.

Now, in November 2019, we watch as a block of student flats in Bolton goes up in flames. The fire spread in a matter of minutes. And with reports of fire alarms and sprinklers not working, it is nothing short of a miracle that nobody was seriously injured or worse.

In addition, it is absolutely vital that the people who died in their own homes in Grenfell Tower receive at least some sort of justice. The way in which these people died is appalling and should be a disgrace to the Government and all agencies involved in the installation of the flammable cladding.

We cannot sit idly by whilst MP's time is wholly taken up by 'other' issues. Demand that action be taken so we never have to bear witness to another fire or life lost due to simple negligence.

What we need: The current (or future) Prime Minister and Home Secretary to prioritise the investigation of flammable cladding on buildings nationwide and in particular blocks of flats, and once identified to remove and replace with suitable non-flammable alternatives.

And for Kensington and Chelsea London Borough Council to hold accountable the companies who provided the cladding for Grenfell, and the decision makers who allowed the change to aluminium cladding to be approved in order to save money.
