We have another positive development to share with you!

Interview on Danish Radio from minute 15:07 with Roger Casale (the questions are in Danish but the answers are in English)

Claude Moraes MEP, Chairman of the European Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee, Molly Scott Cato MEP and 37 MEPs have written to the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe asking for a formal investigation into the #DeniedMyVote scandal.

Can you can chip in £5, £10, £25 or whatever you can afford -  it will make a difference.

The Venice Commission normally carries out probes into alleged corruption and vote rigging in eastern and central European countries.

In the letter, the MEPs say

“Our concerns are wide ranging and involve the exclusion of specific groups of voters and an increasing sense that both the Referendum and European elections did not reach the standards we would expect from a well-established democracy.”

This action follows the presentation of a dossier of evidence to the Civil Liberties Committee by New Europeans.

MEPs back EU election scandal probe

Commenting on the latest development, Roger Casale, New Europeans founder and Secretary General said:

"The revelations are a major embarrassment for Britain's crisis-ridden Conservative government, as they demonstrate quite clearly that it could have easily taken steps to avoid so many EU citizens being disenfranchised”.

We can also report that the #DeniedMyVote scandal was raised again today in the House of Commons during a debate on immigration.

Speaking in the debate, Joanna Cherry QC MP drew attention to the importance of our campaign in the context of a debate about immigration and the Windrush scandal:

"It's perfectly understandable that EU nationals living in the UK are afraid about the protection of their rights. I pay particular tribute to the work of New Europeans who have done great work in relation to the denied my vote scandal"

New developments

This Government is giving British democracy a bad name and we cannot let this drop of let that go unanswered.

This is a fast-moving campaign with new developments coming thick and fast every day which we need to be able to respond to.

In the light of the new developments, we have decided to increase our appeal target to £5,000 and to extend the deadline to 16 July.

This will allow us to lobby MEPs and the Council of Europe in Strasbourg in the week of 16 July.

We will also follow up today's debate in Westminster with a request for a debate in the Scottish parliament.

Thank you to all who have made whatever contribution you can make to our campaign appeal.

We cannot sustain the impact we are having without the money you are donating to the campaign.

Please continue to do what you can so that e can continue to embarrass and put pressure on the government until we get a public inquiry into #DeniedMyVote.
