Safiyyah Bilal started this petition to David Lammy (Member of Parliament for Tottenham) and

The purpose of this petition is to eradicate Black history month in schools and for Black history to be a part of the history curriculum.

Every October, Black history is rolled out in schools without an afterthought of what it is really about. *Pat on the back* you have ticked all the boxes, provided all the mainstream information on black history for one month. No that is unacceptable!

Black history should be mandatory as part of the history curriculum. Black children have a right to also learn that their forefathers contributed to the pinnacle moments in Britain (from 16th Century to today). By making Black history mandatory on the history curriculum, this will enable black children to be able to understand the past, feel worthy for who they are and to find their voice to shape a better future for generations to come. By no means is this a segregation of race; instead it is a coming together for all students to understand how black people have and continue to shape Britain, as we know it today.

Black lives are everyday 365 days a year-not just once a year in October.

Please sign the petition today so that your children, future generations can learn about real Black history and have a voice.
