Boost the Capacity and Service Frequency of SEPTA's Broad-Ridge Spur

Boost the Capacity and Service Frequency of SEPTA's Broad-Ridge Spur

The Issue

I draw this from the heart of an observer, a concerned citizen of Philadelphia, who believes we can have better. SEPTA General Management is musing over why the Broad-Ridge Spur has such dwindling ridership. Is it not apparent? The trains are only two cars long, and astonishingly, there is an absence of Sunday service. Increasing the length of the trains to 4 or 5 cars and ensuring a weeklong service might just be the turning point.

Having a more robust, reliable, and consistent Broad-Ridge Spur service isn't merely about adding a couple of cars or an extra day of operation. It is a strategic move that can potentially revolutionize the ridership quantities. It’s an established fact that when a transit service offers more regular and ample service, ridership can skyrocket tenfold. This claim does not stand groundless – research conducted by the American Public Transportation Association substantiates this (source: American Public Transportation Association).

Imagine a Philadelphia where we needn't worry about overcrowded trains or non-operational days. Imagine a Broad-Ridge Spur that sets an example of public transportation efficiency, deemed as a benchmark for other cities in the US. Remember, improving one aspect of our public transportation system isn’t just a logistical change; it's an opportunity to enhance quality of life for thousands.

We call on the SEPTA General Management to reconsider the current approach, understand the significance and ramifications of prudent management decisions, and increase both capacity and frequency of SEPTA's Broad-Ridge Spur. Join us in advocating for this improvement by signing this petition. Let's together push for a more efficient, enhanced Broad-Ridge Spur service.
