Part of the Boone County Commission does not believe that reopening South River Road and Harold Cunningham Road is important to anyone besides the few farmers in the Wilton-Easley River Bottom. The South River Road is one of the few county roads in Missouri that runs along side the Missouri River and gives the public access to that unique natural resource. The Wilton Landowners' Levee & Drainage Association did the repair to the road at a very reasonable cost, actually less than the county's cost share if FEMA or SEMA would have been part of the projects. The landowners billed the county $38,540, and a rough estimate of the cost for the county to do it themselves or hire an outside contractor would be $160,000. Timeliness was also a factor since the Missouri River could rise again at any time and cause more damage. The landowners could get to work quickly.
