With all the new variants of COVID-19 from Brazil and the UK, as well as the daily rapid increase of cases; not only are the elders at a higher risk, but even worse symptoms are being found in younger people. It is ironic that schools are one of the only few places open, when they are the leading spot for social gatherings in the province. Class cohorts become pointless and unnecessary when students from other classes hang out with one another; with very little distancing. Even with the wearing of masks, the virus somehow manages to find its way to the students, who then proceed to unknowingly transmit it to one another. Moreover, masks don’t cut the job when the virus is at its highest peaks.

Dr. Bonnie Henry declared that if they “close schools down, the cases will only increase’; this is faulty since the COVID-19 cases were at their lowest peaks when schools were shut down last year. The government makes this extremely dangerous for students, teachers, and parents, who are consistently attending school, especially because of the new threatening variants. The safety of one’s life needs to be prioritized over in-person education; therefore, schools need to be shut down temporarily to moderate the rapid cases.
