Don't take away the BC Games from our young athletes!!!

The Issue

Yesterday the BC Games Society and the City of Vernon made a very disappointing decision to Cancel the 2022 BC Winter Games in Vernon BC, Feb 24 to 27th.

This is not only devastating to thousands of athletes, coaches, and parents, but to the whole Province ready and waiting to get back to life as we knew it.  Dr Bonnie herself said less than 2 weeks ago that Omicron is the BEST thing to happen to Covid and it is showing us the end of the Pandemic is near.  This variant, although spreading quicker, is far less dangerous and similar to the common cold and flu.  These kids have worked hard, they have followed the rules and did all that was asked of them, there is no reason why these games can't go on!  There are ways to proceed safely, we are better than this, we can Pivot and Adapt and Proceed!

If we can pack Malls, Big Box Stores, Stadiums, Planes and Airports, Cruise Ships and so much more with strangers..... then we can give these young athletes this opportunity too!  Next Month China will host athletes from all around the world for the Olympic Games, but the Province can't host their future generation of Athletes on a much smaller scale?   How can anyone logically explain the difference in safety here, it simply just can't be explained!

We are speaking loud when we continue to take these sorts of things from these kids, showing them that only Money seems to be the answer.  If it profits and benefits the Government somehow monetarily it may proceed.  However something  based with volunteers to reward our future generations for their perseverance through the hardest days of their young lives, can't happen?

We are petitioning the decision to cancel the Games and request it be reconsidered immediately   It is imperative all of you help by collecting as many signatures as we can to show the decision makers that WE Support our Young Athletes of British Columbia and WE need to host these Games for THEM!
