I had a few thoughts after reading Sarah Opdahl's article in the Town Tribune this week - especially the"clarification" at the end. First a Thank You to Sarah Opdahl for the great writing - clear, concise and just the facts - she is a great addition to the paper! The hilarity ensued when I got to Susan Starr's statement for "clarification" at the end. I've posted it in it's entirety in the top right box of the collage. I would love to know what Ms Starr puts in her coffee every morning to completely obliterate her memory. Time and time again she has refused to acknowledge any issues in the New Fairfield School system. To quote her "clarification" - " "However as a result of unfair negative attacks, it is becoming increasingly more difficult for us to fill open positions here in the district. It saddens me to say this, but why would anyone want to join this team? I hope to see that change for the benefit of all in the near future." Ms.Starr has forgotten three petitions in one year? Special Education, Parents and TEACHERS all presented petitions to this Board of Education. Do we remember her and her cronies making fun of those who signed ? (Much like the lake petition now circulating) Ms Starr has forgotten all the teachers passionately BEGGING for change? One of her favorite teachers Ed White getting up to the podium and actually crying while reading his speech? Does she think teachers do not speak to each other? She seems to exist in a bubble where her only priority is to protect the superintendent at all costs. It seems now that her fellow Republican Douglas Derito is standing up and speaking his mind Susan is going after him as well. The main role of a board member is TO PUT CHILDREN FIRST ABOVE ALL ELSE. Board members are responsible for "Selecting, retaining and evaluating the superintendent of schools, who serves as the district’s chief executive officer and implements board policy. Perhaps no single decision a board makes has more impact than the selection of the superintendent." Last evaluation Susan didn't write so much as a sentence. Ms Starr is convinced it's 1950, no one should speak out against any injustice and appearance is most important above all else. I don't remember her indignation at Sped students not getting services. This is an election year and it's time to clean house - let's remember this in November.
