Restore Services for Homeless Women & Children

Restore Services for Homeless Women & Children
The Issue
Manna House is a transitional housing program located in Cliffwood Beach, New Jersey that serves women and children who are homeless, transition to a life of independence and hope.
On Friday, February 26th the Manna House Board of Trustees announced closure of program operations due to an inadequate amount of referrals from the county. On this same day, Manna House went public with the reality that women and children who are homeless are not receiving the services they need to attain transition from social services to independence, a service directly provided by Manna House for more than twenty-eight years.
Now Manna House is asking for an immediate response from the public’s representatives to guarantee eight referrals by the end of March in order to allow the program to continue, and a change to the contract between the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Manna House that stipulates payment for ten families per month regardless of referral at the cost of $360,000, per calendar year, to the county. In this way, the county will be motivated to place women in need in the program instead of turn away these women due to eligibility requirements that have little to do with need, and more to do with politics.
We know there is a need for Manna House. We receive an average of five documented calls per week from desperate women trying to find transitional housing services that Manna House provides, but are reliant on the county for placement. This is an injustice to our county’s most vulnerable women and children, and leads instead to the continued cycle of poverty that many of these families are subjected to.
We want to change this! Help us make lawmakers aware of this travesty by signing our petition!
