Help Amend the Russellville City Schools' Tuition Policy

Help Amend the Russellville City Schools' Tuition Policy

The Issue

With no input from community members, Russellville City Schools recently made the decision to implement a new tuition/admission policy. If students live in the county, they must apply each year to continue their current education at Russellville City Schools. Applicants must pay $600 tuition and have satisfactory grades, attendance, and behavior to be accepted. This policy affects our children in a negative way. Children that have been enrolled in Russellville City Schools now have to transfer to a county school or risk the chance of not being accepted each year. This policy causes several hardships: Many families live within 3 miles of the Russellville school, yet they live in a county school zone where the county school is 20 miles away. County schools are not prepared for the rise in student enrollment. We do not want our children in county school portable classrooms because Russellville decided to implement this policy immediately. We need the city superintendent to phase this policy in slowly to allow county schools to better prepare for the large number of students they will be receiving. We also need Mr. Grimes to reconsider the grandfather clause. The children already enrolled in the system, ALL children that are currently enrolled, and any siblings born to this date should be grandfathered into Russellville city schools. It is a hardship physically, emotionally, and financially for families to send some of their children to one school and their other children to a county school. Please sign the petition, and let's make our voice heard.
