Recently, the Trump administration passed an Executive Order barring scientists from publishing Academic Journals without Government approval. He cites COVID research and CDC recommendations to provide distance learning as unnecessary to preventing the spread of COVID-19. That is despite The National Library of Medicine showing with multiple studies that large indoor groups are more likely to spread the disease. He also cites DEI which ignores that scientific minds come from all over the United States and good research extends beyond race, nationality, or creed. 

Likewise, it mandates that "When scientific or technological information is used to inform agency evaluations and subsequent decision-making, employees shall apply a “weight of scientific evidence” approach." This is harmful to the scientific community as it risks disregarding research based on a subjective "weight" of evidence rather that what data provides. That is as harmful as it is vague. We deserve better. 

This order just passed on May 23rd. Scientists are not politicians and this administration needs to stop forcing agendas on a group that is necessary to the research and prevention of diseases. We could risk the silencing of data articles critical to learning more about disease if the Trump administration does not like the people or ideas behind that data.
