Block Braun’s special session to erase voters in Indiana

The Issue

Governor Mike Braun has called a special legislative session starting November 3, aiming to redraw Indiana’s Congressional maps mid-decade—just three years after the last redistricting. The goal? To push through a partisan gerrymander that could wipe out the state’s only two Democratic seats in Congress and cement one-party rule in a 9-0 map.

This isn’t about fair representation—it’s about political power. And Hoosiers from all political backgrounds are speaking out.

Even prominent Republicans like former Governor Mitch Daniels and former House Speaker Brian Bosma have warned against this move, calling it “bad form” and an affront to the will of Indiana voters. Polls show that most Hoosiers—including many Republican primary voters—oppose redrawing the map mid-cycle. So why is it happening now?

The answer is simple: pressure from the Trump White House. According to multiple reports, Indiana lawmakers were lobbied on a private call to deliver a redistricting plan that eliminates Democratic seats and boosts Republican control before the next midterms. And despite earlier promises that he wouldn’t act without Senate support, Governor Braun is bending to that pressure—risking our democratic integrity to please political elites.

This special session isn’t just costly (past sessions have cost taxpayers over $370,000); it’s unnecessary, unpopular, and undemocratic.

We, the people of Indiana, demand that our legislators reject any mid-decade redistricting effort. We urge Senate Republicans and Democrats alike to vote no and to put Hoosiers’ voices before party politics.

Indiana is not a playground for political games. It’s our home—and we deserve fair maps drawn in fair processes.
