Block biased family court rulings in Georgia

Block biased family court rulings in Georgia
The Issue
My name is Matthew Parmer, and I am a father living in Georgia who has experienced firsthand the devastating effects of the family court system on my relationship with my daughter. Despite being fit, willing, and able to care for my child, I have been limited in my ability to spend time with her due to biased court rulings that ignore our constitutional rights. This unjust process has led to parental alienation and has threatened the meaningful parent–child relationship that my daughter and I deserve.
The Georgia family court system is currently plagued by incentives provided under Title IV-D, which emphasize child support collection over the best interests of children. As a result, courts are more inclined to render rulings that strip children away from good parents. In doing so, they often ignore the fundamental rights of both parent and child and put children at risk of lifelong trauma resulting from the loss of a meaningful relationship with one of their parents.
We cannot let this continue. It is imperative that the Georgia State Legislature and Governor take swift action to reform the family court system. Proposed reforms should include:
1. **Equal Shared Parenting Presumption**: A new legal standard that assumes both parents are equally capable of being primary caregivers unless proven otherwise, ensuring children have meaningful relationships with both parents.
2. **Stricter Evidence Standards**: Implement stringent standards for evidence, especially concerning allegations of misconduct that often result in unjust limitations on parental rights.
3. **Transparency in Court Funding**: The financial motivations steering decisions need to be exposed. Requiring family courts to report funding sources and incentives will help ensure that profit does not outweigh the best interests of children.
These reforms will protect our children’s fundamental right to maintain relationships with both parents, ensuring their emotional well-being and stability.
I will be periodically making trips to the capital to speak with GA State Legislators about these issues. I devote much of my time to this cause and would love your support.
If you’re looking to find out how you can help in the fight for our children’s God given right to having a meaningful relationship with both parents after separation or divorce, please reach out to me.
