Developer of UHill Durham investigated for discrimination against Black Business Woman.
The Issue
At SHBella Dreamz we believe in God given talent, purpose and gifts. ShBella is a place where everyone is beautiful, empowered, and fearless through talent, music, dance, fashion, community service, healthy eating, and financially.
In 2020 SHBella Dreamz, a sedentary building for two decades, was rebirthed with purpose and vision to strengthen a need lacking in Durham's community. In the middle of the pandemic, owner Shea Ramirez, exhausted financial resources and labor in renovations to ensure that this 6000 square feet space would be vital to the Durham community.
In the midst of preparing for what the owner promised to the Durham community, shortly after moving into the space, she was faced with legal challenges causing financial hardship to her business and its growth. Legal and property restraints have curtailed all efforts to maximize the business’s capital and the purpose of the investment of this space. The owner of UHill Community erected a fence obstructing handicapped accessibility, decreasing access to our space and creating a loss of clientele and potential business relationships. At your leisure visit our YOUTUBE channel @SHBelladreamzrecreationcenter to learn why we are seeking the community help.
ShBella Dreamz Recreation Center graciously brings to the Bull City a space that aims to impact everyone in Durham from all walks of life. A building that once housed your favorite movies, have been renovated to touch the lives of those in Durham. ShBella is a community retail space/ shoe store affording local entrepreneurs the opportunity to display their merchandise to grow their business and network with other business owners. There is a work co-op space for business owners to share work space to conduct their business and a tax office. There are four state of the art music recording studios, a community center room, full kitchen, podcast area, and open studio space used for small private events, dance and cheer team. We have a beautiful patio area that is decorated with inspirational quotes to inspire and uplift our guest. The space is perfect for outdoor seating and a great place to take photos. Not to mention we have an area for gardening. All of this is for the community a safe and upscale venue were you feel loved and welcome.
Unfortunately, Shea’s innate desire to positively impact the community was put at a halt due to the developers of University Hill in Durham, NC, Hawthorne Capital Partners. I am hoping to shed light of the racism and discrimination that I have experienced and advise you to spend your money in places, outside of University Hill, where it matters.
Thank you!
