Bingham High School does not have a big enough parking lot for their students. Due to this, people are parking on S 2200 W all the way to the intersection at W 9800 S, increasing students late to school, angry students, traffic issues, and lack of motivation to attend school. 

The student body, especially the juniors and seniors, of Bingham High School are being affected by the parking issues. Since there is a lack of parking spots, students have to park far away even if they had previously bought a parking pass at the beginning of the year. That is unfair for the students who paid money for these passes to have to park along the curb of S 2200 W. Students that have to park a block away also sometimes arrive at school late. This causes frustration not only to the students, but to the teachers and staff who have students arriving late to school.

If this problem can be solved, it will benefit the students of Bingham as well as the staff of Bingham. Students will not feel cheated by the school, because their parking passes will guarantee them a spot in the school parking lot. Some students may even be able to arrive at school on time due to the fact that they won’t have to park far away from the school and walk a long distance to get to the building. This could also help members of the community trying to drive along S 2200 W, since cars will not be lining the street for seven hours a day. 

This problem has been going on for years now. I conducted a survey on Instagram and out of the thirty-four students that responded, 94% of the responses were negative about the Bingham Parking lot. Of that survey, not only current Bingham High School students responded, but there were also previous graduating classes of Bingham High. 

To add to the fact that the school sells more parking passes than parking spots available, this year they have had construction that takes up a significant amount of spots. Students are being ticketed for parking in the parking lot that they paid to be able to park in. This is unfair and unkind to the student body of Bingham.

My hope is to have either more spots added to the parking lot.
