Dear friends, We need a massive turnout tonight to counter the PR campaign the mounted by the BBPC. Come early to the hearing (5PM) and let your voice be heard. Below is an email the Park's PR firm distributed early this morning. It is another shameful act, instead of listening to the public comments and concerns about the GPP modification, they are doing everything in their power to go forward and permanently convert much needed park land into developer profits. *** From: James Yolles Date: July 30, 2015 at 7:49:44 AM EDT To: James Yolles Subject: TONIGHT: DEPUTY MAYOR GLEN, BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK SUPPORTERS RALLY FOR PROPOSED MODIFICATION TO PARK GENERAL PROJECT PLAN PRIOR TO ESD HEARING MEDIA ADVISORY SUPPORTERS OF BROOKLYN BRIDGE PARK RALLY FOR PROPOSED MODIFICATION TO PARK GENERAL PROJECT PLAN PRIOR TO ESD HEARING WHAT: Parks advocates, leaders from labor, environmental organizations and local Brooklyn groups will join Deputy Mayor Alicia Glen and Brooklyn Bridge Park President (BBP) Regina Myer at St. Francis College, Brooklyn support a plan that fully funds Brooklyn Bridge Park and delivers vital affordable housing to the local community. After the rally, they will testify in favor of the proposed modification to the Park General Project Plan (GPP) before an ESD hearing. The modification would allow for affordable housing, a pre-k facility, community space and additional parkland at the Pier 6 development site—dramatically improving the development previously authorized. The development plan recommended by BBP would reduce the height of each building by approximately three stories, reduce the total number of residential units by about 20%, provide approximately 115 units of moderate- to middle-income permanently affordable housing, a 75-seat public pre-k facility, an additional 1,500 SF community facility, and public restrooms. The plan will also provide approximately 500 union construction jobs. These changes represent improvements to the plan that are responsive to local and citywide concerns.
