Petition for a New MTB Jump Track in the City of Cockburn

My son and many local youth in the City of Cockburn are passionate about mountain biking, especially jump riding. However, there are limited local facilities, forcing riders to travel long distances or use unsafe, unofficial tracks.

We are calling on the City of Cockburn Council to build a public MTB jump track for our community. A purpose-built jump park would provide a safe, controlled space for riders to develop their skills and reduce the need for illegal trail building.

A jump track would be a versatile facility, suitable for both MTB and BMX riders, and designed for all ages and skill levels with beginner, intermediate, and advanced lines.

There is a clear demand for this type of facility. Based on local riding groups and participation, hundreds of riders from across Perth would regularly travel to use a well-built jump track in Cockburn, making it a key destination for the sport.

Around 80% of young people do not meet recommended physical activity levels, and parks with riding features are up to three times more likely to be used, showing the value of investing in facilities like this.

Cost vs Benefit
While there is an upfront cost, the long-term benefits are significant:

Low maintenance compared to other sports facilities
Reduced environmental damage from illegal trails
Improved youth health and wellbeing
Increased community engagement
Economic benefits from visiting riders
A jump track is a low-cost, high-impact investment that will benefit the community for years to come.

Let’s support our young riders and give them a safe place to ride, progress, and connect.

Sign this petition to urge the City of Cockburn Council to build a public MTB jump track.
