Petition updatePreserve the Old Quarry G.C. as a Green Space or Low Density R-1 DevelopmentCall to Action Update: PUD is NOT Withdrawn

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

You may have noticed that the bright yellow rezoning signs on the east end of Reads Lake Road (closest to Westview) had big, black stickers added to them that say “WITHDRAWN”.

In fact, Pratt’s request to the Regional Planning Commission for a Planned Unit Development (PUD) is NOT withdrawn.  It will still be heard on January 11.

Here’s what we think is going on.  There were actually two (2) cases applied for and only one has been withdrawn.  We believe that this was purposeful in order to confuse everyone.  Basically, in Case No. 2021-0004, Pratt was asking to rezone a portion of the Quarry property from R-1 Single Family Homes to R-3 allowing Apartments.  But, if the other application for a PUD is approved (Case No. 2021-0005), then it will allow for Pratt to build those apartments plus the townhomes as those plans indicate.

In the PUD application, Pratt’s greed leads him to construct high density apartments and townhomes consisting of 225 units as shown in the plans that were submitted and that we shared with you previously. Pratt did not need this rezoning request (case 0004) because the PUD application (case 0005) proposes multi-family and the high density of 225 units would be allowed under a generic PUD. Again, this application has not been withdrawn and it can only go forward with City Council approval.

FOMC remains adamantly opposed to this increased density. This fight is still on!

Please contact all city council members and let them know that you live close by and oppose this PUD plan.  The case will first be heard by the Regional Planning Commission on January 11 at 1:00 pm during their Zoom meeting.  You can register to comment if you would like to speak at this meeting. Please reply to this message to find out how.

Since the RPC is made up largely of developers, builders and realtors and their vendors, we fully expect them to approve this.  However, the real decision is made by the City Council.

So please contact all City Council members and let them know that you are a neighbor (as opposed to folks like NCCC that do not live in our neighborhood) and you oppose this PUD.

Thank you for your continued support as we are in this together!

Respectfully,

Your FOMC Board
