The 50 plus acres of green space at the Mountain Creek/Reads Lake intersection is in jeopardy of becoming the 14th apartment complex on Mountain Creek Road! The  natural beauty and serenity of the Mountain Creek watershed and habitat will be destroyed as the developer clears the forest and fills in the spring fed ponds and pristine creeks converting the green space into roof and black-top impervious surfaces adding to storm water runoff and flooding. The two lane road that is already experiencing traffic issues will become untenable for the residents. Should the developer have his way, the quality of life for those that live in the area will be forever lost. 

The developer’s plan is to put in 40 apartments on the 2.8 areas that is now zoned C-2. Originally the golf course was zoned R-1 (residential single family). The golf course requested a C-1 spot zoning to allow the clubhouse sale of alcohol. In early 2000s the City of Chattanooga imposed a house keeping measure to convert all C-1 zoned property to C-2, neither requested by the property owner or with the knowledge of the residents.The developer intends to take advantage of the C-2 to maximize his profits in defiance of the will of 700 residents and City Council resolution. The developer has already tried to get a PUD zoning for the property that will also allow him to build 153 attached family units. With the public support, that zoning request was withdrawn. If the C-2 is not stopped and apartments are built there, the PUD will be resubmitted and the green space will be lost to high density development. 

We want to return the area to a green space to be enjoyed by everyone instead of a high density development that profits one. If the developer persists, we would support a low-density development of R-1 consistent with the neighborhood.

Sign this petition to ask our community leaders to reject high density development, promote green space and put conditions on the current C-2 zoning to not allow apartments.
