BEYONCE'S CHILDHOOD HOMES NEED TO BE PRESERVED LANDMARKS

BEYONCE'S CHILDHOOD HOMES NEED TO BE PRESERVED LANDMARKS
The Issue
IT'S TIME BEYONCE'S HOMETOWN PRESERVES HER CHILDHOOD HOMES AS PUBLIC LANDMARKS
Beyoncé has been a household name for over 25 years now, having grown up in Houston's predominantly Black southeast central area adjacent to Texas Southern University. Yet, seeming to come full circle, as recently as the first week in December 2024, weeks before returning home to blow up the local stage, to the delight of her fans, with songs and choreography styled to satisfy regional tastes, Billboard had named her the "No. 1 Pop Star of the 21st Century."
Second only to Beyoncé was Taylor Swift, fresh off of her Eras Tour, which led to her being the pop artist of 2024 and having more songs streamed according to Spotify. Rihanna, who was the richest performer until last October, received third place for Pop Star of the 21st Century.
Rolling Stone named Beyoncé's "Formation" the greatest music video of all time which means it surpassed Michael Jackson's Thriller video. Also, they recognized her as the greatest living entertainer, still, local officials and politicians are unfazed by her level of success after leaving the state or just too dull to have her two childhood and family homes dedicated as historically preserved landmarks from demolition and/or future unchecked development.
In fact, the first of two homes was nearly lost to a Christmas fire a year ago, but somehow the owners and property were unscathed and fortunately spared, which made international headlines at 2414 Rosedale Street. Knowles-Carter was only five when the family moved less than four miles away to the latter property at 3346 Parkwood Drive.
Both homes deserve to be forever preserved as landmarks linked to Beyoncé for perpetuity and put on the National Register of Landmarks if not put on Houston's City Register of Landmarks at the very least.
On Christmas day 2025, parading around on a white horse has solidified her star-studded status and should gain her an instant place on the Texas Register of Historic Landmarks, but in some way, this petition should see to it that her legacy is forever solidified within the entertainment industry as an icon for this generation on par with what the Beetles did for their generation and what Michael Jackson did for his and having further broken the glass ceiling for many solo Black women performers for years to come!
