Better support and awareness for neurodiversity in the workplace.

The Issue

In December 2022, I was diagnosed with ADHD and autism. A lot of people with ADHD and Autism experience unfair treatment and a lack of support in the workplace.This is an unfortunate reality for many individuals diagnosed with neurodiverse conditions, leading to unnecessary stress, anxiety, and even job loss.

We believe that all workplaces should not only have first aid staff members but also mental health first aiders. These professionals can provide immediate assistance during a mental health crisis just as a traditional first aider would during a physical health crisis.

 

We urge companies to offer CBT or to let staff know that there may be able to access support through the Access to Work scheme or other government or NHS initiatives.


Lastly, we urge the creation of neurodiversity support groups within all workforces. These groups can promote understanding and acceptance while providing practical strategies for accommodating neurodiverse employees.

 


The World Health Organization reports that one in four people will be affected by a mental or neurological disorder at some point in their lives. Yet many workplaces are ill-equipped to support these individuals. By implementing these measures, we can create more inclusive work environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
