Better Discord Account Support
The Issue
Discord has a massive problem with its current account recovery system.
It is completely reasonable that Discord needs strong security to prevent stolen accounts. However, the current system can leave legitimate users with no reasonable way to recover an account when they permanently lose access to the email address connected to it.
If someone knows their account password, has a long history of using the account, can provide information proving they own the account, and can provide legitimate purchase records or other account details, there should be a secure way for a real human support representative to review the situation.
Instead, users can get stuck in a loop communicating with an automated support bot that repeatedly gives the same advice, even when a user cannot recover their account with the standard recovery process.
I'm asking Discord to create a safe, human-reviewed recovery option for these exceptional cases. This could include verification through previous passwords, account history, purchase information, previously connected phone numbers, trusted devices, or other info Discord can safely use to establish ownership.
This would NOT mean weakening Discord's security. It would mean giving the actual account owners a GENUINE chance to prove who they are.
People invest years of memories, friendships, communities/servers, and, in many cases, REAL MONEY into their Discord accounts. Losing access because an old email address is permanently unavailable should not automatically mean losing everything, with no chance of a real human review.
Discord should give users a secure, better way to be heard.
