NHS staff should not have to pay to use work car parks

The Issue

Nurses at the NHS are having to pay for the car park where they work. I believe this should either be a low set price, which shouldn't rise, or nothing to pay at all. Our nurses who are saving lives and caring for dying people are being fined up to £102. What happened to the NHS looking after its employees?

Often nurses at Ipswich Hospital have forgotten to place a ticket in their car and upon realising they can't leave the wards because there is a lack of staff cover. At this particular hospital, car park attendants are given daily targets to fine families, staff and patients for going over their allotted time. There are signs in the hospital stating that the NHS understand appointment times can go over and by calling the displayed number they can rectify the fine. But this refund is rarely given to patients, let alone staff. Even parking on a verge or just over the bay lines can result in fines for nurses.

I have friends who are nurses and are scared to speak up because it could damage their career. I believe this needs to be looked at seriously as it’s getting worse each year.

Please support this petition for employees and users of the NHS to remove parking charges at The Ipswich Hospital.
