Via deze petitie willen wij onze stem gebruiken en aandacht vragen voor de uitzetting van de Palestijnse inwoners van de wijken Sheikh Jarrah en Silwan in Jeruzalem door Israëlische kolonisten met behulp van het Israëlische leger. De aanval op Sheikh Jarrah en Silwan is een onderdeel van de voortdurende Israëlische nederzettingenpolitiek, apartheidspolitiek en systematische etnische zuivering van Palestijnen in Jeruzalem en in de rest van de Palestijnse gebieden.

Deze petitie stelt de volgende eisen aan politici, volksvertegenwoordigers en instellingen:
 
- De Israëlische overheid moet stoppen met haar nederzettingpolitiek en de daarbij gepaard gaande uithuiszettingen van Palestijnse families in o.a. Sheikh Jarrah en Silwan.

- Israël moet het recht op demonstratie van de Palestijnen te allen tijde respecteren en geen excessief geweld gebruiken.

- Het offensief op Gaza moet stoppen. Ook de blokkade die sinds 2007 door Israël en Egypte is opgelegd, moet opgeheven worden. De Gazastrook is hierdoor tot op vandaag de grootste openluchtgevangenis ooit.

- De internationale gemeenschap, en in het bijzonder de Europese Unie, moet de bezetting van Oost-Jeruzalem veroordelen en economische sancties opleggen.

- De EU en de Belgische overheid moeten de BDS beweging erkennen en ondersteunen in het blokkeren van illegaal verkregen handelsgoederen met name afkomstig uit de bezette Palestijnse gebieden.

- Israël moet onmiddellijk stoppen met de Palestijnen de toegang te ontzeggen tot de al-Aqsa moskee en het blokkeren van de toegangswegen tot Oost-Jeruzalem voor Palestijnen buiten de stad en elders in de bezette Palestijnse gebieden.

- De al-Aqsa moskee is een heilige gebedsplek, deze hoort gerespecteerd te worden. Het geweld door de Israëlische politie in en rond de moskee moet per direct stoppen, alsook het aanvallen van moslims die hun gebed uitvoeren.

- Wij roepen specifiek de Nederlandse en Vlaamse media op, om te stoppen met hun berichtgeving te baseren op Israëlische bronnen en te beginnen met de focus te leggen op de oorzaak van het geweld; met name de steeds toenemende agressie en provocatie door Israël en dus niet de raketten vanuit de Gazastrook die als reactie daarop worden afgevuurd. Hiermee doelen wij ook op de subjectieve berichtgeving die beide partijen op gelijke voet stelt. Dit is namelijk niet het geval, Israël voert een illegale bezetting uit en onderwerpt de Palestijnen aan een apartheidsregime (zoals recent bevestigd door Human Rights Watch).

Ten slotte vragen we met deze petitie aan onze Belgische overheden om met drang deze onrechtvaardige uitzettingen van de inwoners van Sheikh Jarrah en Silwan te veroordelen en sancties op te leggen voor het niet respecteren van het internationaal recht, waaronder resolutie 194 van de Algemene Vergadering van de Verenigde Naties over de onvervreemdbare rechten van het Palestijnse volk en het recht op terugkeer van alle Palestijnse vluchtelingen.

Through this petition we want to use our voice and raise attention for the forced eviction of the Palestinian habitants of the district of Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan in Jerusalem by Israeli settlers with the help of the Israeli army.

The attack on Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan is part of the continuing Israeli settlement policy, apartheid policy and systematic ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians in Jerusalem and the rest of the Palestinian territories. 

This petition states the following demands to politicians, representatives and institutions: 

- The Israeli government must stop its settlement policy and the associated deportation of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah, Silwan and other Palestinian regions. 

- Israel must respect the Palestinians’ right to demonstrate at all times and not use any excessive force of violence. 

- The offensive on Gaza must stop! The blockade imposed by Israel and Egypt in 2007 must be lifted. This makes the Gaza Strip to date the largest open-air prison ever known. 

- The international community, and in particular the European Union, must condemn the occupation of East Jerusalem and impose economic sanctions. 

- The EU and the Belgian government must recognize and support the BDS movement by blocking illegally obtained trade goods especially those sourced from the occupied Palestinian territories. 

- Israel must stop immediately with denying Palestinians to access the Al-Aqsa Mosque and blocking the gateways to East Jerusalem for Palestinians located outside the city and the occupied Palestinian territories. 

- The Al-Aqsa mosque is a holy place of prayer, this should be respected. The violence by the Israeli police in and around the mosque must stop immediately, as well as the attacks on Muslims who are performing their prayers. 

- We specifically call on the Dutch and Flemish media to stop basing their reporting on Israeli sources and to start focusing on the cause of the violence; in particular the ever-increasing aggression and provocation by Israel and not the missiles from the Gaza Strip that are fired in response to this. With this we also mean the subjective reporting that puts both parties on an equal footing. This is not the case; Israel is carrying out an illegal occupation and subjecting the Palestinians to an apartheid regime (which is recently confirmed by Human Rights Watch)

Lastly, we urge our Belgian government through this petition to strongly condemn these unjust evictions of the residents of Sheikh Jarrah and impose sanctions for not respecting the international law, including the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 194 about the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and the right to return of all Palestinian refugees.
