BECOME A LEPRECHAUN TO HELP FIX IRELANDS HATE SPEECH LAWS

Have you heard of the Leprechaun Law? 

In Ireland, our hate speech laws pre date social media, and that’s a huge problem. Around 8 in 10 people in Ireland have seen or experienced hate online and there is currently nothing to sufficiently legally protect them from it in our opinion. 

In 2024 the Minister for Justice dropped their plans to introduce hate speech Laws online and have said they ‘will be progressed separately in due course.’ We want to make sure this happens.

That’s where this comes in. 

In 2009 – Leprechauns were given a special protected status under EU Law which obliges Member States to establish a system of strict protection for those species. Basically, it means we all have to work together to ensure they are safe and protected from any harm. 

So, right now, we’ve got laws about mythical creatures, but not ones that properly protect people online

WHY?

If all of us ‘Become Leprechauns’ we can show the Irish government just how many of us there are that want to change Ireland’s hate laws. 

THE RESULT?

If we get enough signatures, it will allows us to petition the government and put pressure on them to improve people’s protection online and encourage them to deliver sufficient legislation that protects everyone. Leprechauns and all.
