The Issue

Every six minutes a child is sexually abused in the U.S. An estimated 1 in 4 girls and 1 in every 6 boys will be assaulted before they turn 18. Over 90% of victims have reported their perpetrator was either a family member, friend or someone they know. Unfortunately sexual abuse is WAY to under reported only 1 in every 10 sexually abused children ever tell anyone about it. Erin Merryn a sexual assault survivor herself founded Erin's Law which is registered with the State of Illinois and the IRS as a 501 (c)(4) non-profit social welfare organization.

“Erin’s Law” requires that all public schools in each state implement a prevention-oriented child sexual abuse program which teaches: students, school personnel, parents and guardians about sexual abuse prevention as well as the warning signs of child abuse.

This bill has passed in 37 states already unfortunately AZ is not one of them. This is why I'm writing this petition because our education system needs to implement this so we can teach our children how to protect themselves as well as to teach them that they are not alone if they are already victims and get them the help they need.

Sexual Abuse can have a traumatic impact physically, socially, and psychologically which may include post traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, problems at school and or work, low self-esteem, relationship problems, PTSD etc.
