Why this petition matters

Started by Brave Movement

My name is Rosalia and I'm a survivor of childhood sexual violence.

I started this petition with 8 other survivors from the Brave Movement.

We are 9 survivors of childhood sexual violence from G7 countries and beyond. We are urgently calling on leaders of the world’s richest countries to take bold and transformative action when they meet in June to end childhood sexual violence -- so that what happened to us never happens to another child.

Childhood sexual violence is a global scourge, which at least one in five girls and one in ten boys experience.  It has devastating long-term consequences for children, families, and societies.  And the COVID pandemic has exposed children to even greater risk.

Childhood sexual violence is happening now, in silence, in every nation. In family homes, sports, schools, and places of worship. Also across borders, in the form of online abuse, trafficking, and sexual exploitation perpetrated by tourists.

Ending this scourge is essential for all humanity, it demands a coordinated international response, and the world’s richest countries must take the lead because they have special responsibility.

There are evidence-based, proven solutions.  G7 leaders (Joe Biden, Boris Johnson, Olaf Scholz, Emmanuel Macron, Justin Trudeau, Fumio Kishida and Mario Draghi) must act without delay.  We are calling on them to:

- Create a safe internet where children are free from sexual violence.

- Invest billions in their own countries, and in lower-income countries, to scale up prevention, healing, and justice programs.

- Start genuinely listening to us by creating a G7 Survivors Council that advises on action to permanently end all sexual violence against children.

It is time to break the silence.  Everyone has a role to play. Breaking the silence is on all of us–and should not be a burden placed on survivors alone.

Please join us as survivors and our allies to demand prevention to protect current and future generations; healing for survivors and their families; justice for survivors, and holding perpetrators and the complicit to account.

If enough people sign this petition, then the G7 must surely listen.  This issue is too important to ignore.  We promise to make sure that your signature is delivered to every G7 leader and to keep you up to date on any developments.
