The Issue

Stranahan High School has long been a cornerstone within the Fort Lauderdale community, a place where generations of students have not only learned and grown but have also carried their Dragon pride into the world. However, recent developments have cast a shadow over the very foundation of our beloved school. As a member of this community, I am deeply concerned about the growing issues surrounding student enrollment, engagement, and overall care that seem to be spiralling out of control.

Statistics show that student enrollment at Stranahan is on a decline, leaving gaps not only in classrooms but also in the richness of our school’s culture. Declining numbers impact funding, reduce resources, and lead to fewer opportunities for student involvement. Without immediate action, we risk losing the vibrancy and opportunities that our school should provide.

In addition to this, there’s a noticeable decrease in student activities and extracurricular support. These programs are not just additions to the academic environment—they are crucial for student development. They provide students with the chance to discover their passions, develop new skills, and engage with their peers in meaningful ways. The lack of these opportunities is not only disappointing but is a disservice to students who depend on diverse activities for a well-rounded education.

Reports from students and families indicate that there is an urgent need for the Broward County Public Schools to intervene and understand these challenges. Increasing mentorship programs, diversifying student activities, and boosting engagement initiatives can improve both student satisfaction and academic performance. A dedicated task force to assess the current issues and develop a comprehensive plan can serve as the foundation for these changes.

This is a call to action for the Broward County School Board to listen to the community's voice and show their commitment to nurturing a thriving school environment. We need to ensure that students feel supported, involved, and proud to be part of Stranahan High School.

I urge you to sign this petition to demand that Broward County Public Schools take immediate action to address these pressing issues. Together, we can work towards a brighter future for Stranahan High School, ensuring it remains a beacon of pride and opportunity for all its students and community members.
