Lowcountry Pride, a nonprofit whose purpose is to highlight the uniqueness and diversity of our community, will be holding a Pride Festival on November 18, 2023, at Live Oaks Park in Port Royal, SC.

The Pride Festival is a family-friendly event featuring food trucks, a bounce house, local vendors, and booths from local nonprofits. The event also provides a valuable form of community education: it highlights the welcoming nature of Port Royal and Beaufort County, and honors the LGBTQ+ community and its contributions to our society.

Recently, a handful of opponents have questioned the appropriateness of holding a Pride Festival in Port Royal. Specifically, they have claimed that this event is a threat to the community's children. They have even demanded that the Town of Port Royal government deny Lowcountry Pride access to the public park suggested for the event.

Nothing could be farther from the truth - this is an inclusive, welcoming event that is open to all, and safe for all. The event is eagerly anticipated, and a welcome addition to the slate of festivals the Town of Port Royal hosts for this community.

This petition provides a way to show the Port Royal Town Council, and community overall, that the Pride event will receive a warm welcome in the town. More than that, it shows that there's a demand for this type of event here, that people see the value of welcoming new or different perspectives rather than turning them away.
