Be Outraged! Demand a Ban on Assault Weapons
Be Outraged! Demand a Ban on Assault Weapons
The Issue
The horrible murders in Colorado just last week are only the most recent evidence that there needs to be more gun control when it comes to semi-automatic and assault weapons here in the US.
No one wants to take away your deer hunting rifle, or even your permitted handgun, but come on America! There is no hunter who needs a 100 round magazine! And what IF someone in that theater, one of the Good Guys, was carrying their own assault weapon and had decided to (try to) fire back at the SWAT clad shooter, in the dark and tear-gas filled room? What then?
I support President Obama, and I call on him as well as on all US elected officials to act. Now. The video above dares each voter to Be Outraged. I am Outraged.
The Patriot Act allows that the books I check out of the library are tracked. Amazon and Google know what I'm shopping for online. The grocery store monitors my food and beverage purchases...why isn't anyone looking to see who is purchasing 6,000 rounds of ammunition online?
Change has to come from each one of us, here at the grassroots level. The NRA controls our elected officials. The NRA "grades" them, and the ones who get an "A" are the ones who think that the Colorado murderer should be allowed to amass the arsenal that he did. His weapons and ammo were obtained LEGALLY. How much clearer does it have to get that that should NOT have been legal?
No, banning assault weapons will not eliminate crime. It will, however, make it much more difficult for murderers like the one in Colorado, and the one in Arizona last year and the one at Virginia Tech four years ago. Yes, it does mean that You will not be able to legally own a semi-automatic assault gun or a 100-round magazine. But so what? SO WHAT?!
The NRA has a gag in the mouth of any one running for any office any where. I'll never run for any office, so I can speak up. I hope you will too. If a million of us do, "someone" will have to hear!
