It is no doubt that Covid-19 has put stress on everyone and going back to school is a stress all on its own. Currently, the schools have pushed their start date by 2 days and Rob Fleming is claiming that there will be an “orientation week” for kids returning to the classroom. However, September 10th is a Thursday, which means the week is really only 2 days. Furthermore, upon looking at the school schedule for those 2 days, children will attend 15 minutes on the first day and 60 minutes on the second day.

Many parents are struggling with feeling comfortable allowing their children to return to classroom learning with the vague and uncertainty of the protocols districts have put in place. Currently, some school districts are offering a gradual return to classroom learning with an online component and parents who chose this option do not have to withdraw their child from their school, nor do they face the possibility of losing their spot in that district.

As it stands, SD43 does NOT have a gradual return to classroom put in place. Trudeau announced 2billion dollars would be going towards the safe return to school for students and this money should be used towards making a gradual return for ALL districts. Moreover, there should be an online component in place for parents who are uncomfortable with a return to school this year.

This petition is to argue that the disregard for our children’s health and safety by giving parents the choice to return their child(ren) to school, or risk losing their spot in the district and being forced to homeschool is 100% unacceptable and is absolutely reckless. Covid-19 is still a global pandemic and as such, parents and children need to feel comfortable in their environments. This issue is not black and white.

Lets fight for all school districts to have the SAME learning options for this school year, which would include full return to classroom, gradual return without having to pull our children from school and without the risk of losing their spot, an online option or homeschooling.
