Petition updateStop the proposed waste recycling depot at Abbots Depot, Oakleigh Road SouthCllr Rutter's answer to a resident about the Council Motion on 28th July

Apparently Cllr Rutter and Daniel Thomas have a completely different view to the residents on the Council Motion Tomorrow. Cllr Rutter thinks it is nonsense and Cllr Thomas is fine with companies evading taxes....
They both underestimate our intelligence OR someone might think that they will further benefit from that transaction since they fully support non transparent deals made with public money...
The thing is the money they are spending it not theirs to spend but our money....
We have removed the name of the resident as per their request
Enjoy the reading and please support my petition to have her removed as a councillor in our ward and spread the word.
Hope to see you all tomorrow at 7 at Barnet Town Hall in Hendon

Cllr Rutter is quite right, it is today's value which is relevant. Also, the tax affairs of the current owners are between themselves and HMRC.
The council is simply purchasing the land at today's value, its not complicated but I can understand why the opposition are attempting to make it so.
Kind regards,
Cllr Daniel Thomas

Dear Cllr Rutter
Thank you for your reply.
I do find it patronising that you thought it acceptable to not reply me as I am not technically a member of your ward.
It has taken you a long time to figure that out considering we gave exchanged several emails on this issue.
As I wrote previously I live two roads from the proposed site, my son attends a nursery which is behind the site and my other son regularly uses the park across from the proposed site. So am I affected by what is happening in your ward? Absolutely.
Do "my" councillors believe the decision was not robust. Yes.
Do the two OTHER councillors in your very own ward believe the decision was not robust. Yes.
How can you, in any conscience, send me an reply calling the motion nonsense?
The council and the tax payers footing the bill, were told the previous sale price was circa 8 million. Imagine the surprise to discover it was sold for circa 2 million in 2002 and £750,000 in June 2014. None of this was disclosed by our council but by local residents.
The council has said the most recent sale price does not represent market value as it was between owners. Still illegal according to hmrc and tax evasion at its finest!! The audacity of our council to both acknowledge and reward such tax evasion is shocking. And it does make one wonder why the council is so keen to pad these specific pockets. This is nonsense if I ever heard it!
The council and the tax payers, were also told the site was vacant. Imagine our surprise to discover it is being used by winters. How convenient to find you Cllr Rutter suddenly championing a cause to buy out winters who were relocating ANYWAYS with MORE of our tax dollars. It does make one think this purchase of winters, begged upon by locals for years, is simply necessary for your proposal to go through. I am not inclined to believe this is a generous solution that you have come up with despite your constant patting of your own back for this "idea".
Finally the traffic survey. I've seen the raw data. Confusing, yes. Robust, no. Will traffic be less?? Considering the fleet size, Barnets plan to increase recycling by 50%, the parking allocation and the employees of the site along with the imminent sale of the nlbp for housing.., would you honestly be surprised to hear I am skeptical at best, and don't believe it for a second at worst.
Quite honestly you should be ashamed of the position you have taken on this site. Which residents of "your" ward support your decision? You are simply replacing the private evil of winters with the public evil of our council who have said our desire to protect our green is "ridiculous" and our councillors right to know the full facts prior to voting on a purchase "nonsense".
The response you have sent me does not acknowledge never mind address the reasons behind the motion.
Saying the councillors were told the information relevant to the motion 5 months after the fact is moot. Without a majority what can the councillors do but take an action such as this? The public is shocked and want a re-vote.
Will you do what is right? Or what your party wants you to do?

Dear Ms XXXXXX,
Thank you for your email. I did not reply before as I am not your Ward Councillor. Your postcode reveals that you live in Coppetts Ward.

As it appears that your Councillors have not provided an explanation to you, I will try and explain.
The Motion to retake the decision to purchase the Abbots site is nonsense as the monitoring officer has reviewed the decision making process and it was robust. The purchase was recommended after a full business case with the price paid being in the same region of other sites which were investigated.
The monitoring officer reviewed the decisions at the request of Cllr Cooke from the Labour Party. The delegated decision to exchange contracts on the sites was taken in May 2015, after due diligence confirmed all of these points of detail which Councillors Cooke and Levine are currently concerned about. This decision was taken on the basis of a business case which considered the different options available to the Council and confirmed that financially and operationally, the Oakleigh Road relocation was the best option available.
The following link provides details of the proposed Council depot details and details about the consultation which has been extended to 20th August 2015.

I have listened to the residents concerns over the years regarding Winters Haulage. As Winters Haulage will no longer be on site this means a 50% reduction of truck movements. The council’s fleet of refuse lorries are new, clean and have the latest Euro 5 emissions rating.
I hope the above information has been helpful.
Kind regards

Dear Cllr Rutter
I emailed you recently but received no reply from your office so am emailing again.
Cllr Levine, also of Brunswick Park Ward, has put a motion before the council to re-take the decision to purchase Abbotts Depot as recent information about the site casts doubt on the robustness of the decision to purchase Abbotts Depot for £13.5m.
As another councillor in our ward I am writing to ask you to vote FOR the decision to be re-taken.
Councillor Rutter please listen to your ward. This is your opportunity to right a wrong and represent your residents who have asked you repeatedly to stop this from coming to our doorstep. Support the motion and when the time comes, do more than abstain and vote against the purchase of Abbotts Depot.
Please vote FOR the decision to be re-taken. And then against the purchase of Abbotts Depot.
